PURR-fect Adopters Needed!

Being a great adopter means getting your home ready for new kittens. Proper bedding, multiple litter boxes sized for babies, the nutritional food reccommended by the adoption agency you will be bringing your kitten home from... and preparing your family for the new arrival. It is so important to teach your kids (all ages of kids) how to handle and care for kittens. They aren't toys, and definitely shouldn't be given to children as gifts. The kittens should be part of your family, and like all family members must receive the proper amount of social time and quiet time in order to grow and learn how to be part of the forever litter! Teach your kids proper handling of the baby kitten and never leave children under 10 unattended with the kittens. Make sure your kitten has a safe place to rest and be alone too.
Kittens should receive vaccines and routine parasite treatments to be sure their immune system is strong and they are healthy. Shots can be given as early as 4 weeks (ask your veterinarian what schedule he/she prefers though!) Internasal drops can be administered earlier. In rescue medicine, the caregivers try to start as early as possible and give series of vaccines to build the kitten's immunity. Routine worming is also a priority in rescue. Some kittens have a tougher time growing than others, but with proper veterinary care and nutrition most will be ok. Vaccines are very important to your new cats health, please keep their routine appointments and vaccinations up-to-date! Testing for Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids is another important step in being a responsible pet owner. If you research the vaccines and decide which you would like to give your pet, discuss that with your vet also.
Kittens and cats sleep alot and will sleep wherever they choose, some like boxes and fancy beds, but most prefer to sleep on a pile of your clothes, or on a pillow that reminds them of you!

Teach young children how to hold and play with kittens. Never leave kids and kittens unattended!
